CHANDLER, Ariz. – It’s an award that recognizes environmental achievements within the aviation and aerospace industry, and in 2018, AvAir took home the top prize.

The Aviation 100 is the aviation and aerospace industry’s preeminent authority, and each year, the annual publication honors aviation businesses that rise above the competition across an array of different categories. Arizona-based AvAir was the recipient of this year’s prestigious Environmental Sustainability award, which recognizes the tremendous strides the company has made with regard to sustainable building, business practices and operations.

“It’s an incredible honor to be recognized for our work in an area where we’ve really concentrated our efforts,” said AvAir President Mike Bianco. “We’ve prioritized sustainability and making a minimal environmental impact since day one, and it’s our hope that this recognition will help encourage others in the industry to take similar steps.”

AvAir’s commitment to minimizing its environmental impact starts on the ground level, with a six-acre headquarters and 170,000 square feet of inventory space powered almost exclusively by clean solar energy serving as the company’s home base. AvAir opened the new facility in 2015, kickstarting a massive reduction in carbon emissions and the elimination of 13,389 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere in the time since.

AvAir’s environmental efforts have proved so fruitful, in fact, that they’ve enabled the company and its associates to drive nearly 29 million fewer miles, plant more than 335,000 trees and recycle more than 45,000 tons of waste since the new headquarters opened its doors. AvAir’s innovative changes with regard to the environment, energy efficiency, waste management and business practices also helped save more than 14 million pounds of coal and enough energy to power more than 1,600 homes every year.
